good quality book

I ordered this book to help understand some basic finance concepts, I have used this book before also it is a level 1 book to understanding finance products. The book was shipped promptly and was a new book as promised.. no torn pages or marking in the book.

Exactly what I wanted. 5 stars

briefly but clearly explained all the concepts. don't expect all the detail calculations of all Cash flow or payouts calculated. But good enough to excite anybody to continue their study in finance.

This is a must read for all who feel the need to learn about these important investment vehicles. The writing is stellar and easily understood, even on such ideas as futures, hedging, and more difficult concepts like the yield rate curve.Mr. Veale is an excellent writer and deals with the common and uncommon uses of these vehicles. You will understand how to read any kind of quote, from stock to bond to esoteric qoutes like T-Bill spreads and ED futures.I usually sell books like this once I have absorbed the knowledge, however this is a keeper since it will be an important reference for well into the future.

The book is exactly what I expected and it is in wonderful condition. Enjoy reading and studying the stock market in relation to what I have in the market. This helps a lot with good explanation.

I am making the transition from hard sciences to financial markets. I have started reading many math oriented books on quantitative finance, like the great two volumes by Shreve, but guess what, I still could not understand a Bloomberg article or a report on the radio, all these market terms were a mystery to me. Not anymore. This book did it for me. It requires ZERO financial knowledge and yet it is not for dummies. It is perfect for the level of someone who never had a formal training on what is the definition of a stock, what kind of departments exist inside an investment bank, etc. etc.It is a clear book, I would not call it technical, it reads like a novell, and I can not overstate any more how cleat it is. I definitely recommend it to people who want an introduction on the subject.

To be fair, the most excessive examples of corruption do seem to have been eliminated. The Industrial Revolution changed that by shifting much of the planet's wealth to the West. However, in the 21st century, the tide is turning back to Asia. Crabtree speculates that either India or China might rise to the top of the world's economic heap by the middle of this century. He seems to be betting on India to win this race. But the problems he highlights in The Billionaire Raj cast doubt on this speculation. The country's new Gilded Age does not lay a firm foundation for continuing rapid growth.Economic inequality and its consequencesOne of the country's greatest challenges is economic inequality. "India should now rightly be viewed alongside South Africa and Brazil as one of the world's least equal [large] countries," Crabtree writes. While India's billionaires live in sybaritic splendor, hundreds of millions of people languish in poverty-stricken rural communities and teeming slums. (Reliable statistics about poverty in India are hard to come by. Sources differ widely. But it's likely that at least half of the country's population, or 600 million people, live on less than $2 per day.) I think this book is an economic chronicle of india’s two decades post the liberalization of 90’s. Whoever reads it , needs to read it again in 2025. Good read, but could have avoided devoting a whole chapter on cricket betting. There are better books to cover that topic. In contrary devoting a chapter on Media influence is a good one.
