I have tried several programs including Pimsleur and I find this one to be the best without a question, mainly because the method is more engaging than any of the others I have tried. The first 5 lessons are from their new and improved learning-Spanish Level 1 program and the next five lessons are from the classic version of their learning-Spanish Level 1 program. The content as well as the native Spanish speakers are different in the new version and the classic version but both programs seem to have been developed with beginners in mind.The remaining two lessons are from their New Millennium Spanish program, a Spanish program that uses the same engaging method found in the first ten lessons. But the two New Millennium Spanish lessons seem to have been created with millennials in mind. I say that because the two New Millennium Spanish lessons cover Spanish for sending Facebook friend requests, adding and removing Facebook friends, reading Facebook comments and careers that are common among digital nomads such as personal trainer and web site designer.My biggest gripe, actually my only gripe, is that the ebook should have been included with the audiobook. I don't think it is fair that I have to pay separately for the ebook regardless of how inexpensive it is. The author discourages you from using the ebook. According to him, you should only "listen and repeat" to get a real Latin American accent. But I am a visual person so I like to see what I am reading.
This is a great program for learning conversational Spanish. I mean the type of Spanish that the natives actually speak. The other Spanish programs which I had purchased always gave me the feeling that they were teaching me Spanish specifically for tourists or what the creators of the program thought I should learn. No, that's not what I had wanted to learn. I have always wanted to learn the authentic stuff.And with this course I am finally learning the type of Spanish that I always wanted to learn. Real conversational Spanish. The speakers in this course are not just any old native Spanish speakers. They sound more like professional native Spanish-speaking voice-actors. I can tell because I used to work in the voice-over field. Not only does the fact that they're professional actors and actresses help keep me interested and entertained but hearing the accent from someone who has been professionally trained as a voice actor really helps me to develop the accent of a native Latino.As someone pointed out already, make sure you get the audio program at Audible.com or at Amazon. My wife signed up for the free trial at Audible.com so we were able to get the audiobook to this course for free with our free trial. In my opinion, the ebook by itself really doesn't make much sense without the audio. I still recommend getting the ebook because there are links in the ebook to sign up for their free webinar which is taught by a Colombian Spanish professor who teaches "New Millennium Spanish" as opposed to 20th Century Spanish. Get this program. You'll be happy you did.
This is a great resource for learning conversational Spanish. I am a Spanish tutor and I am always looking at different Spanish programs, not only to recommend to the students who I tutor, but also to help me improve my teaching methods. I have recommended this program over and over again to several of the students who I teach. Unfortunately, most have ignored my advice. But the couple of students who followed my advice and listen to the program on a daily basis, I can hear a marked improvement in their Spanish pronunciation and listening ability.I will continue buying programs from this author because this program and some of the other programs by him have helped me immensely when it comes to developing an effective teaching method.
I have tried several Spanish programs and this one is by far the most engaging and interactive. Nearly every program I've come across uses the same listening and repeating method. But not with this program. With this program, the instructor really keeps the listener engaged by constantly asking questions. After you give your answer in Spanish, a native Spanish speaker then says the correct answer so that you can repeat after him or her to check your pronunciation.You'll have to get the audio book of the program here at Amazon. But it's worth it, especially if you take advantage of the free trial offer that Amazon/Audible is offering at the time of this review. The creator of the program says that you don't even need to buy the ebook. I bought it anyway and found it very helpful because it helps me visually reinforce my new vocabulary words.
You get a total of 10 audio Spanish lessons with this program. Lessons 1 to 5 from the original version and lessons 1 to 5 from their new and improved version of the program. I personally prefer the new version because I found the audio lessons to be more engaging.I recommend that anyone who is serious about learning Spanish get this audio program. And avoid the ebook as much as possible. By using the audio only, I think it really helped to improve my pronunciation in Spanish. I'll admit that I cheated here and there, by looking at the transcript while practicing with the audio.
